Lake Geneva Youth Camp & Conference Center
Lake Geneva Youth Camp and Conference Center first opened in 1950. Abiding by the mission statement of: "We exist to boldly present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people, families, and adults through innovative, relevant, and high-quality camping, conference and retreat experiences and to challenge them to become dedicated followers of Jesus Christ, committed to knowing, living, and sharing a compelling faith." I had the opportunity to first experience the wonders of this camping facility at the age of eight as a camper. Then after several years of camping I began volunteering my summers at the age of fifteen, and was later on hired on as summer staff from the age of seventeen until the age of twenty. By volunteering and working for this ministry for six years I was able to discover a strong work ethic early on in life, and for that I am grateful.

Conference Dinning Room ManagerAfter two Summers of volunteering forty hours a week as a server in the two dinning halls on the property, I decided that I wanted to be the one running one. At the age of seventeen I was hired on to manage all of the serving volunteers and make sure that dinning hall operations ran smoothly for the conference center. The conference center hosted many retreat groups throughout the summer, ranging from groups of six to three hundred and fifty. I was the go to person all of the servers and I was in charge of making sure that the guest dietary needs were met. During this time I learned management skills and how to handle situations in high stress environments. I helped contribute to to smoothness of the center's dinning experience as a whole.

Conference Administrative AssistantThrilled with my work as dinning hall manager, the Conference Director hired me on the following summer as his administrative assistant. I was able to help send out reports, field any phone calls, and create contracts for the retreat group's visit on the property. During my duties as an administrative assistant, I was able to sharpen my computer and phone skills. I soon learned that my role was vital in making sure that the needs of our staff and retreat guests were met and communicated.

Guest Services AssistantAlthough I enjoyed being the administrative work for the conference center, I felt that my calling was to be working with people and not behind a desk. For both summer of 2013 and 2014, I served as the guest service assistance for the center. As the guest services assistant I delivered quality service with a strong focus on the implementation of the special needs of conference and retreat guests ensuring their requests were met, and if not making sure that it happened. I aided in the set up of housing and conference meeting rooms. While working I was also able to learn quite a bit about sound systems and was able to focus on my people and public communication skills. The guest services director and I assisted the guest in anything that they needed as we served as the point people for the duration of the guest's stay.
